On November 16, the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan, in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments, the Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources, and HSBC Bank, organized a one-day modern mining business conference.
The conference was attended by the Minister of Economic Development and Investments of the RA, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills, representatives of governmental institutions, mining companies, interested organizations, experts.
The goal was to connect local mine operators with well-known U.S. companies that offer products and services to ensure greater mine productivity, employee safety, and nature protection.
While the conference was designed to strengthen the growing commercial ties between the United States and Armenia by introducing leading American businesses to Armenian mining sector operators, it is also an opportunity for Armenian mine operators to get the latest in technology and ensure their businesses run effectively and safely.
Minister Suren Karayan in his welcoming note mentioned that the mining industry is one of the important pillars of the economy and has the greatest density in the structure of export.
It plays an essential role in whole economic development of Armenia. "The Government of the Republic of Armenia attaches great importance to enhancing the attractiveness of the investment environment. The Republic of Armenia has announced and is carrying the policy of “Open Doors” to exclude any restrictions on investment activities. Continuous improvements are being implemented in the business and investment environment. A number of sectoral policies have been developed and put into operation aimed at development of industry, information technologies, diversification of exports, expansion of foreign markets ",- said Minister Suren Karayan .
“Mining, done responsibly and transparently in line with the highest international environmental and social standards, can be a successful investment that is also good for the Armenian people,” U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills Jr. said during his opening remarks at the conference. “Sustainable mining, using the latest technology and equipment, can be safe for the workers and protective of the environment.”
