The investment project of establishing a free economic zone in Syunik region was presented

On January 19, an informational presentation on establishment of free economic zone in Syunik region was presented at the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments, followed by Deputy Minister Hovhannes Azizyan’s press conference.

Aram Vardanyan, Head of Division of Investments projects of the Investment Policy Department at the Ministry presented the investment project of establishing a free economic zone in Syunik region.

The presentation was followed by Deputy Minister Hovhannes Azizyan’s press conference. During the press conference Deputy Minister answered the question of the representatives of mass media about the project, as well as Iran-Armenia trade and economic relations.

Hovhannes Azizyan noted that the main goal of the free economic zone is to contribute to the export volume growth and creation of new workplaces, as well as ensure sustainable economic development through integrating foreign direct investments and introducing advanced technologies.

According to Hovhannes Azizyan the Government of Armenia announces competition for investment projects in Syunik’s free trade zone. The Government of Armenia thus invites for cooperation potential organizers of free economic zone in Syunik, as well as express readiness to consider preliminary applications of potential operators. The relevant announcement and the detailed business plan are posted on the official website of the Ministry.

“We will try to combine different interests and select the projects which will be most attractive and will meet the requirements of our country. We will focus on the approaches and number of jobs that will be created. After there are enough proposals, we will submit them to the Government of Armenia and after some discussions the free trade zone will come into operation”, - the Deputy Minister said.
