Minister Suren Karayan received delegation headed by UNIDO Industrial Development Officer Farrukh Alimdjanov

On February 15, the Minister of Economic Development and Investments of RA Suren Karayan received delegation headed by UNIDO Industrial Development officer of the Department of Trade, Investment and Innovation Farrukh Alimdjanov.

Greeting the guests, Suren Karayan expressed satisfaction with the results of the activity implemented by UNIDO. “Yesterday the presentation of the Second Phase of UNIDO Project “Improving Competitiveness of Export-Oriented Industries in Armenia through Modernization and Market Access” took place. The Government of Armenia stresses the importance of the role of the project, as it enables to cooperate in the field of light industry, create new workplaces, increase export volumes which promotes economic development of our country,” mentioned Suren Karayan.

UNIDO Industrial Development Officer Farrukh Alimdjanov expressed gratitude to the Minister Karayan for reception and added that the activity implemented by the project would not be effective without the involvement of the Armenian side, particularly the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of the Republic of Armenia. Farrukh Alimdjanov spoke about the successful experience of light industry companies operating in Armenia and added that promotion of leather goods production is set by the second phase of the project. According to the officer, there is a serious potential for industry and export in Armenia and the development of the sector also provides employment for women.

“We achieved good results with this program, so we must do our best to have better results. It is important for us to see effective cooperation examples not only for several companies, but also to have sustainable support institutional system for the whole field which will help to deepen cooperation between private sector and UNIDO. We should be able to achieve and continuously keep very high production quality,” added Minister Karayan at the end of the meeting.
