Suren Karayan and his Iranian counterpart discussed the steps to increase the Armenian-Iranian trade turnover

Today, the Minister of Economic Development and Investments of RA Suren Karayan met the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Shariatmadari in Tehran.

Minister Karayan pointed out during the meeting that trade turnover with Iran is still not satisfying and there is a potential to at least double its volumes. Mohammad Shariatmadari agreed with his counterpart and added that the steps taken with the Ministry will be directed to this.

During the conversation, the sides touched upon the process of the free trade temporary agreement between the EAEU and Iran. Minister Mohammad Shariatmadari expressed gratitude to the Armenian side for their support. Suren Karayan and Mohammad Shariatmadari discussed the prospects of cooperation between joint exporting and importing companies.

The parties have reached an arrangement that bilateral commodities will be consolidated in the near future to provide the necessary assistance to the markets of the two countries for their simplified entry.

The Ministers also touched upon the cooperation of “Meghri” and “Aras” Free Economic Zones. According to the arrangement, a special area in Meghri FEZ will be delivered for Iranian certification services.

The prospects of cooperation in the field of industry and joint production have been discussed during the meeting, in which Armenia will become a platform for accession to other markets.
