On November 29, the Minister of Economic Development and Investments of RA Suren Karayan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Armenia Jonathan Lacôte to discuss the prospects of Armenian-French economic cooperation.

Minister Karayan noted that both sides need to implement serious activity to use the unrealized potential in order to bring Armenian-French trade and economic relations to the level of political dialogue.

Jonathan Lacôte expressed confidence that the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and the assumption of the Presidency of La Francophonie Ministerial Council by Armenia are essential for the promotion of Armenian-French relations, including economic cooperation.

According to Jonathan Lacôte, the French business in Armenia has the intention to expand. The Ambassador added that he has already met some investors and can prove that the French side wants to make investments in Armenia taking into account the export opportunities of Armenia to the European, Eurasian and Iranian markets.

The Minister informed the Ambassador that “Meghri” free economic zone will soon be opened, which will create new opportunities for French business.

“We are ready to be with French businessmen operating in Armenia, to assist and to take measures to ensure conditions necessary for French businessmen to operate in Armenia,” said Minister Karayan.
