The Minister of Economic Development and Investments of RA Suren Karayan received the Principal Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Economics and Business Affairs Brian McFeeters.

During the meeting the agenda of the Armenian-American economic cooperation has been discussed. The cooperation in the spheres where there is a potential for developing Armenian-American business ties, particularly information technologies, pharmaceuticals, light industry, agribusiness, etc. has been discussed.

Suren Karayan stated that the trade turnover between Armenia and the United States in 2017 has grown and the growth has continued in January of this year. Nevertheless, the Minister underscored that the full potential of economic cooperation is not realized, and efforts should be made to make a greater progress. The importance of the US-Armenia Trade and Investment Council meeting to be held in the US on March 19, has been stressed, during which a wide range of issues related to promoting bilateral trade and investments will be discussed.

“My visit underscores the U.S. government’s commitment to robust U.S.-Armenia trade relations. Trade between our two nations grew 42% last year. We commend and support the Armenian government’s continuous efforts to improve the business environment and combat corruption to make Armenia a more attractive place to invest. Expanded economic development benefits both of our countries,” said the Principal Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Economics and Business Affairs Brian McFeeters.

During the meeting, the parties touched upon the scope of issues for the upcoming session of the Armenia-USA Trade and Investment Council, the investment field reforms, as well as issues on GSP trade regime delivered by the USA to Armenia.
